At-risk youth were given a voice at ”A Sense of Peace” community exhibition which drew hundreds to Riverside, California. The exhibition was heavily supported by numerous like-minded community and nonprofit groups.

Sit down in a Paris café or a restaurant in Florence with in-house monitors and you may be impressed by powerful audio-visual messages that truly teach human rights.

Released in June of this year, these thirty- or sixty- second spots bring to life all 30 Articles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Their appeal was instant and within weeks they were showing on over 1,000 TV stations around the world.

The Preventing Abuse Conference on Human Trafficking and Child Abduction was hosted by the Cedars Cultural and Educational Foundation at the Sheraton Universal Hotel on November 13th, 2006.

Human rights activists from southern California gathered to address the growing problem of human trafficking in Los Angeles and throughout the nation. A new docudrama that exposes trafficking in this country was premiered followed by a panel discussion. The film, Cargo: Innocence Lost, by award-winning film director Michael Cory Davis, unveils the dark underworld of sex trafficking.

Is artistic expression a human right?

According to President of the International Foundation for Human Rights and Tolerance, it absolutely is. So much so, that the recipient of the first annual Los Angeles County Martin Luther King, Jr., Human Rights Hero Award was Glenna Boltuch Avila, fine artist and Director of the CalArts Community Arts Partnership Program (CAP) for her work to enable inner-city youth to exercise their right to artistic expression through art education.

Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:

Due to her active work in the field of human rights since 2001, 16-year-old Claire Kevitt, the Youth President of Youth for Human Rights International, has been named as one of the judges for the prestigious 2006/2007 NetAid Global Action Awards event which takes place in New York City in May.

Nineteen-year-old race car driver Niki Lanik, the reigning 2006 Clio Cup Winter Champion, flew around England’s 1.2 mile Brands Hatch Indy circuit track on April 1st and 2nd with the Youth for Human Rights logo prominently displayed. Niki and the Youth for Human Rights UK Car Racing Team brought the vital message of human rights to a packed grandstand with over 30,000 people watching around the track, and to many more watching live television coverage.

In these dangerous times people of all faiths must come together to educate ourselves and our youth in basic human rights. These rights were set forth by the United Nations in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Our purpose with the Human Rights Walkathon, 2007, is to unite all people in these rights and to make them a reality. Through education we can end war, discrimination and intolerance.

YHRI’s Director for International Development, Tim Bowles, and YHRI-South Africa’s Alan Wohrnitz presented an enthusiastically received seminar today on the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights to a standing room-only assembly of “City Year Johannesburg” volunteers.

Human rights were the focus of a lively fashion and music show featuring the collections of five Los Angeles designers, modeled by aspiring young models and actors. The event was spearheaded by actress Cassandra Hepburn who decided to take action to raise awareness about human rights after attending a recent Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) event. “I decided to produce this event and raise funds for human rights so as to get this valuable message out to others.”
